Using Visual Literacy Skills to Encourage Communicative Language Practice
This webinar demonstrates how to increase learner engagement in the English language classroom by incorporating visual literacy skills. As an authentic and culturally rich tool, visual literacy may also enhance communicative language practice, critical thinking skills, and vocabulary development. Examples of how to incorporate a variety of images into the classroom such as visual advertisements, infographics, and signage will be provided. Language exercises focused on globally relevant visuals will be given special emphasis along with guidelines for adapting them to different language levels.

The teachers in the live webinar used chat boxes and polls to participate, but you will not have the opportunity to use these features with the recorded webinar. Also, the teachers in the live webinar had to submit their attendance so they could later receive a certificate. Again, this will not apply to you because you will be watching the webinar as a recording.

STEPS FOR PARTICIPATION
- Print the Power Point slides so you can take notes as you watch the video presentation
- The speaker will stop the presentation at certain points to ask questions and opinions. If you are watching the video with other colleagues, discuss your answers with them. If you are watching the video alone, write down your answers and reflect on how the ideas presented relate to your classroom.
- After you watch the video presentation, make plans to implement at least one idea/activity in your own classroom.
- Participate in our Discussion Forum. Briefly describe how you implemented the activity and share a video or photos of your students doing the activity.

DISCUSSION FORUM
- Go to the Discussion Forum entitled "Panama Bilingue ASP" (Click here)
- Click on Register on the upper right corner. Enter the following information: User Name, Email, Password, and Confirm Password. Check the box to indicate that you agree with the Terms of Use. Type the code image into the box. Finally, click on Register Now. (Note: After you have registered once, you don't need to do it again).
- You will receive an email with a link. Click on the link to activate your account.
- Now you can participate in the Forum! Click on the topic that corresponds to this module. Click Reply on the top upper right corner. Type your comments. To attach a picture click on Insert Image. To add a video from YouTube, click on Link.
- You can read your colleagues' posts and reply to them as well!
